Confederates from Iowa:

Not to Defend, but to Understand

I am an independent researcher, speaker, and writer.  For the past six years, I have studied Iowa residents who left that state and served the Confederacy.

During the season, I work at Living History Farms as a historical interpreter.  In the off-season, I work as a substitute teacher.  I am also on the Humanities Iowa Speakers Bureau.  My topics are “Iowans who Fought Against the Union” and “Josiah Bushnell Grinnell and the Iowa Underground Railroad.”

My articles have appeared in Iowa Heritage Illustrated, Iowa History Journal, Illinois Magazine, and local newspapers in both states.

Good blog. Looking forward to you missive on Poweshiek County.

  3. David: at quick glance, you have a very interesting site here. I never knew that the Confederacy included Iowans! But then if Canadians served in Vietnam in American uniforms, I shouldn’t be surprised. Thank you for contacting me through LinkedIn.
